La'Silrey

General Desrey | Regent Queen

As Crown Princess of La’Silrey and General of the Royal Guard, Desrey was elevated to Regent Queen when her father, King Trenton, fell deathly ill. From a young age, she was raised and trained by the late Queen Styx to take over the throne. Desrey has an incredible sense of propriety and manners to handle tense negotiations among the council, but growing up with such rigorous studies means that she’s a bit awkward when it comes to more casual settings. There aren’t many people she calls “friend” on a personal level, but her allies consist of her sister Naiya, her same-age uncle General Wells, and Captain Dorian of the Special Archery Division. Among the people of her kingdom, she has not yet garnered much reputation. But thanks to Naiya and Dorian’s popularity and their endorsement of her character, there is a tentative hope in her ability to rule.

Dorian | Special Archery Devision Captain

Having been born and raised in the Sixth Star sacred city of De’Lastil, Dorian started out as an ambitious prodigy in archery. His talent became unmatched when he successfully crafted his own Talisman outside the Sixth Star Priesthood’s guidance. Though not unheard of, the action was controversial— and arguably illegal. Armed with this talisman, the Sagitta Bow, Dorian’s new power took the kingdom by storm. He ascended the ranks of the military rapidly until finally landing a spot among the Royal Guard as Captain of the Special Archery Division. In an effort to reign in his constant ascension in the ranks, the Council arranged a marriage with the Second Princess Naiya, believing that it would satisfy his desire to advance farther. However for unknown reasons, King Trenton annulled the betrothal quite suddenly before falling bedridden. Two years later, no one knows the reason for Trenton’s sudden change of heart. It’s hard to say if the celebrity status created Dorian’s ego, or if he’d had it all along, but the scandal did little to slow him down. In retaliation to the Council and Crown’s multiple attempts to control him, he quickly allied himself with the queen-to-be, General Desrey.

Naiya | Second Princess

Naiya’s history in shrouded in mystery and rumor. As the story goes, before his disappearance, the former leader of The Silreygan Order of Stealth Mages, witnessed a reported ‘unsettling behavior’ from the young princess. From that day forward, she was separated from her sister and raised within The Order to become a skilled Stealth Mage. Within just a couple of decades, rumors spread like wildfire that The Order’s most ruthless assassin was the missing princess herself. Late in her third decade, Princess Naiya returned to the public eye under the self-proclaimed title of Head of Culture and Ceremonies without any further explanation. Ever since that day, she spends her time with artists, entertainers, dancers, and courtesans— all to the frustration of the Council and Crown. Though she is beloved by the people as a progressive figure, she is a constant thorn in the side of the newly appointed Council in the aftermath of her mother’s death. The rumors of her past reputation for violence eventually simmered into the occasional whisper but never fully disappeared.

General Wells

Second general to the Silreygan Royal Guard and the younger brother to the reigning King Trenton, Wells is a respected figure throughout La’Silrey. Following his older brother’s choice to age, he took on Age Stasis much later than most. The reason behind the sudden decision is unknown, though he seems to enjoy coming up with different reasons if questioned.

Thuban

Naiya’s companion and friend, Thuban is a dragon that she trained as a hatchling to sniff out poisons and hidden spells in food or drink. Though dragons are known to specialize in their own magics, Thuban’s has not yet matured enough for his nature to be identified as he is still a baby. It’s not considered typical for dragons to live indoors due to their excessively large size that they grow into by adolescence. But Naiya’s habits of rule breaking seem to have rubbed off on her scaly companion and Thuban refuses to sleep in the Royal Dragon Stables with the rest of his kind.

Val | Royal Court Astrologer

One of the oldest living Silreygans, Val has served the Crown as astrological advisor since the Vil Dynasty. Born before the end of the War of Commons, he has witnessed perhaps the most historical events of the kingdom, second only to his mentor. His predictive abilities are so great that he has maintained his position despite openly disagreeing with various powers within the kingdom. Regardless of his great skill and his witnessing of history, he is bound to secrecy more than any other and the toll it has taken on him seems to weigh on his very being. These days, he teaches scholars, maintains astrological records for the kingdom, assists priests in reading the stars for Talismanic creations, and provides insights to advise the Crown and its heirs. He has formed an unlikely friendship with Naiya and finds her divisive behavior refreshing.

Ciro | Head of Intelligence

Ciro held the position of Head of Intelligence years prior to taking over The Silreygan Order of Stealth Mages (a.k.a “The Order”). After his predecessor disappeared with Styx’s death, he rose to hold both positions simultaneously. He is the only council member remaining from Styx’s reign and the first public leader of The Order. Despite having been loyal to their mother, Ciro has a contentious relationship with both Naiya and Desrey due to their tendency to lean progressive. After 1000 years of the same monarch, Ciro, like many, is struggling to adjust to a new generation’s perspective and seems to be constantly fighting to uphold Styx’s rigorous model of iron-fisted leadership.

Tarran | Head of Guild Affairs,  Commerce, and Trade

As the only position within the council to be elected in by the numerous guilds across the land, it is Tarran’s responsibility to act as a liaison between official work orders across regions and the Guilds who would be employed. This position requires him to rub elbows with the elite from all regions of La’Silrey, so he is well versed in the different cultural practices and customs. However, he seems to be a bit insecure and often commits awkward social blunders despite this knowledge. The worst of which being his penchant for poorly fitted suits.

Candice | Head of Communications

Daughter to the former Head of Communications, Candice previously served as an Arch Mage of the Second Star. Though it is not unusual for Council positions to be inherited, it was considered controversial for a high ranking member of a priesthood to achieve such authority in the kingdom’s central government. For this reason, her appointment to the Council stoked several conspiracies around the kingdom. Despite the anti-conspiracy laws under Styx’s reign having died with the Queen, rumors around Candice were quietly silenced, only adding fuel to the fire. Many believe this was of her own doing through her control of all mail, communication, news distribution, and more within the kingdom— though no one dares to speak of this suspicion outside of whispers in the back of late night pubs. As the decades passed, this controversy faded away. It is unknown if Candice is popular among the people or disliked, but no one argues as long as they receive their mail on time.

Amala | Head of Law and Magic Regulation

While each of the Council found their spot by different means, Amala is the only one to have been appointed to her position by King Trenton himself. Prior to this role in the government, Amala spent a century making a name for herself among scholars across the kingdom. She is well regarded by many for her fair but stringent observance of the laws and her fluency in the regional affairs that influence them. In her younger years, Amala trained as a Herald for the Third Star Priesthood in the So’Ambar Isles. She permanently moved to the mainland when the embargo prompted her into the central government’s political scene. In this time, she has gained the respect of even more divisive trouble makers such as Naiya and the Second Star Priest, Zeph. She is the most popular member of the council to he appointed after Styx’s death.

La'Lunin

Maris | High Priest of the Seventh Star

Holding the title as High Priest of the Seventh Star makes Maris not only one of the oldest mages in La’Silrey, but also one of the most powerful. Her formation of the very first Priesthood in the kingdom occurred seemingly simultaneous to Queen Styx’s ascension to the throne. At the end of the War of commons, as Styx’s power grew, Maris worked to make La’Lunin the very first autonomous region of the kingdom. As legend tells it, Maris had been the mage to end the war in a single day. With such great feats attached to her reputation and Styx’s ever-present reluctance to go against her, their contentious relationship kept a balance of power in the kingdom. This lasted an entire millennia before coming to a head. When Styx laid siege to the La’Lunin forest forty-four years ago and officially declared war against the region, Maris brought a swift end to The Immortal Queen’s reign. This action all but cemented in the mind’s of Silreygans that the legends had been true all along. While few seemed to disagree with Maris’s actions in self-defense, due to the mystery surrounding her and La’Lunin, many have grown wary and consider her to be the kingdom’s greatest threat.

Yahn | Arch Mage

As an Arch Mage of the Seventh Star, Yahn is responsible for accepting any challenge against the High Priest on Maris’s behalf. Yahn’s past is shrouded in mystery more so than most Seventh Star Mages— which wouldn’t be unusual if not for the Seventh Star Priesthood’s strict age requirements. His unknown age is considered controversial but has lost relevance over the centuries as Yahn outlived anyone who could remember their arrival in La’Lunin. Yahn held an undefeated record up until Queen Styx declared war forty-four years ago and prompted Maris’s action. With only a single loss known, Yahn is considered by many to be the first in line for the High Priest position. This has led to a rivalry with his fellow Arch Mage, Scipio.

Audo | La’Lunin Herald

Though he hadn’t gotten a chance to introduce himself to the new council, this Herald’s name is Audo. He was a regular for delivering messages to Cend’Il and last graced the capital around 56 years ago to congratulate Queen Styx on the birth of her second daughter. Unfortunately, while 56 years isn’t long to a Seventh Star Mage, most of the Royal Guard had been killed during the war when Styx perished. With none of these new recruits recognizing his uniform or being familiar with his presence, this most recent trip to the capital was a bit of a shock for everyone involved. Thankfully, Naiya could recognize a Herald when she sees one, or it would have been quite a problem. How she could recognize a La’Lunin Herald is a mystery to Audo, but he’s grateful to the young princess, nonetheless.

Unknown Woman | “Lady Luck”

In the ancient days before the Exodus of Commons, talks of other realms were rumored to exist, but have long since faded to obscurity. So it’s safe to say that La’Silrey knows little about such phenomena— let alone someone traveling in between these realms. Whoever this woman is, she got lucky with the timing. She arrived in Cend’Il at just the right time that no one would question a curious traveler with so much tourism going on. Let’s just hope she can handle herself with all of the unrest. Though, by the looks of it, she’s no stranger to turmoil.

First Appears: Ch. 4 Lady Luck

Un-named Waiter | Private Rooms

The private dance rooms located under the ceremony grounds of Royal Palace Fortress are a popular place for nobles, wealthy guild affiliates, and government officials to unwind after a long day. Overseen by the Royal Courtesan, Lyri, there are a variety of rooms for relaxation and are often used by the dancers and entertainers at the palace to get some quick shut eye when practice runs late. Councilman Tarran is a frequent visitor of these rooms and seems to have grown close to one of the waiters there, turning the man into a sort of confidant for all of his woes. This was possibly not the best idea on his part.

First Appears: Ch. 5 Going Nowhere

Gate Captain | Royal Guard

One of the few remaining for the era of Styx’s reign, the Captain is in charge of maintaining the front gates of the Palace fortress and answers directly to Desrey herself. She’s a bit old fashioned and misses the days of Styx’s reign when her troops were formidable guards and soldiers. Left behind during the war to protect the palace, she and a handful of her best men survived the decimation of the wider army during the battle. When no one returned alive and Desrey was thrust into her role as General, all remaining troops were promoted to various ranks to help oversee the recruitment and training of the new generation of soldiers. Unfortunately, they can’t seem to catch up with the legacy of the Royal Guard, something that stresses the Gate Captain out greatly, even if she reminds herself that these new recruits have only been in active service for decades compared to her century.
