Author’s Note: Like I mentioned in the previous chapter’s note, there was a lot of things going on during the time I was first posting this story. And just like the grind caught up to me in chapter 7, this chapter was when time caught up to me. And from previous occupations, I know that if you have no time, and budget isn’t an option, the only thing you can do is cut the scope of the project. So Unfortunate’s chapters got trimmed big time. It was a real test to see if I could convey the story I wanted in a concise way without losing too much.
I think in some ways I achieved that. For instance, this chapter drops a lot of lore and foreshadowing for As Above in just four pages (If you go read As Above after this, you’ll see for yourself how relevant it is pretty quickly). It also does a pretty solid job in demonstrating these four characters.
In other ways I didn’t quite have the skills yet to do what I wanted or to tell the story I wanted. But that’s okay. Unfortunate had two goals:
- Finish a comic.
- Figure out what I didn’t know about making a comic.
Both of those goals were met. I finished a comic and I learned a hell of a lot.
Regardless of whatever else, Unfortunate was a success.
